Fisher Pump Announces Objection to Federal Waiver Request for Approximately $13 Million in Industrial Pumps

The Houston manufacturer says it can supply the pumps domestically in compliance with Build America Buy America requirements and is seeking consideration for the contract.

Houston, TX, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fisher Pump announced that it has submitted an objection to a Federal Highway Administration public notice seeking a Build America Buy America (BABA) waiver for the purchase of approximately $13 million in industrial pumps. The company asserts it can manufacture the required pumps at its Houston factory using American workers while meeting and exceeding applicable BABA requirements.

The company notes that the waiver request states the pumps could not be sourced from a BABA-compliant supplier. Fisher Pump submitted its objection to highlight its domestic manufacturing capabilities and request consideration as a supplier for the proposed purchase.

Fisher Pump is pursuing the contract, as well as subsequent related contracts from state departments of transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The company emphasizes that its Houston manufacturing operation offers a domestic source for the specialty pumps described in the notice.

The company argues that awarding the contract to a domestic manufacturer would help preserve and create American jobs while supporting the U.S. manufacturing sector. Fisher Pump states these outcomes align with the domestic manufacturing objectives of Build America Buy America.

Fisher Pump considers the specialty pumps critical to national infrastructure and contends that domestic manufacturing should be prioritized before sourcing the equipment from foreign manufacturers. Its objection requests the agency to take the company's stated production capabilities into account when evaluating the waiver request.

Additionally, the company is encouraging citizens to contact their members of Congress and urge them to press the Federal Highway Administration to deny the waiver, emphasizing Fisher Pump's stated availability to supply the required pumps domestically.
